Dengue Fever Takes a Deadly Turn: 25 Deaths in Just 7 Days

Dengue is taking a terrible form throughout the country. The number of affected patients is increasing every day. Along with that, the death list is also getting longer. If effective measures are not taken to prevent the spread of Aedes mosquitoes, experts believe dengue will take a more serious form in the coming months.
Dengue patients are being admitted to Dhaka's different hospitals every day with high fever and body pain. Due to this, patient pressure is increasing in the country's various hospitals, including Dhaka. So far this year, 28,565 people have been admitted to hospital due to dengue. Among them, 150 have died. Out of this, 25 have died in the last seven days (September 22-28).
Doctors said, this time some new symptoms are appearing. Many people's platelets drop quickly. The situation has become complicated due to not coming to the hospital in time. Prevention is more important than cure.
Patients complain that mosquito repellents are not being given properly in many areas of the capital. Soon after spraying, the mosquito infestation started.
Director of Mohakhali DNCC Dengue Specialized Hospital said that dengue patients are increasing day by day from 10th of this month. Everyone has to be more responsible in dealing with the situation.
DNCC Chief Executive Officer Mir Khairul Alam said that they are working according to the plans that were made earlier regarding dengue. He admitted that there is a little problem due to the lack of councilors.
Experts say that if the situation is not controlled soon, the outbreak of dengue will take a more serious form in October. Especially Dhaka and several districts outside Dhaka are at high risk. Especially in Cox's Bazar, the overcrowding and unhealthy environment caused by the Rohingya camp is drawing red eyes towards Cox's Bazar and Chattogram.
Atiqur Rahman, a specialized doctor at DMCH said that in addition to the use of anti-mosquito drugs for the prevention of dengue, the City Corporation should conduct campaigns everywhere. At the same time, everyone should be aware.
Entomologist Dr. Manjur Chowdhury said that appropriate measures should be taken with proper manpower by carrying out the survey properly.
It should be noted that 3,21,179 patients were affected by dengue and 1,705 people died in the history of the country in 2023.

A video of a pile of dead bodies in a van recently went viral on social media. The gruesome video was of some people who were killed during the quota reform movement.
After the video went viral, questions arose as to where the incident took place. Later, the fact check organization Rumor Scan said that the incident of pile of dead bodies in the van was in the area adjacent to Ashulia police station. However, their identity is not yet known.

In the viral video, several bodies are seen piled up in a van. Besides, another body is being transferred by the police to the van. The bodies were later covered with a poster. At this time, some other policemen are also seen walking around. Although many have questioned whether those who were wearing police jackets were actually police.
According to Rumor Scan, the much-discussed video of the pile of dead bodies happened in the area adjacent to Ashulia police station. This incident happened on the afternoon of August 5. Besides, two people living around the scene claimed that the poster seen on the wall of the video is Abul Hossain Bhuiyan, candidate for ward number 7 of Dhamsona Union of Ashulia.
It is known that this poster on the wall is not available now. Immediately after August 5, all the walls were repainted.

Autorickshaw Driver Killed in Geneva Camp Shooting
An autorickshaw driver named Sonu (32) was shot and killed during a clash between local residents and drug dealers at the Geneva camp in Mohammadpur, Dhaka. The incident occurred around 8:30 AM on Wednesday (September 4).
Sonu, a resident of Sector 5 in the Geneva camp, was passing by Kamal Biryani shop when gunfire erupted. His cousin, Sajeev, reported that the clash involved 40 to 50 individuals, including notorious drug dealers Bunia Sohel, Rana, Tuntun, and Babu. During the altercation, Bunia Sohel allegedly fired a shotgun, fatally wounding Sonu. He was rushed to the emergency department at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), where doctors pronounced him dead.
Sajeev expressed shock over the sudden escalation, noting that fights involving sharp weapons and sticks are common in the camp, but the use of firearms was unexpected. He questioned how such weapons had made their way into the camp, highlighting the brazen nature of the attack.
Shahidi March: / Students Rally to Honor Fallen Heroes
The 'Shahidi March' of the anti-discrimination student movement is set to take place today.
The movement's central leaders will hold the march on Thursday (September 5) to honor those who lost their lives to violence during various stages of the ongoing student protests, which began with demands for government job quota reform and escalated to calls for the government’s resignation. The event also marks one month since the fall of the Awami League government.
This announcement was made during a press conference held on Wednesday (September 4) at the Dhaka University (DU) Student-Teacher Center (TSC).
According to the plan, the march will commence at 3 p.m. from Raju Bhaskorja at Dhaka University and will proceed through Newmarket, Manik Mia Avenue, Karwan Bazar, and Shahbagh, concluding at the central Shaheed Minar. Sarjis Alam, a lead coordinator of the movement, emphasized that this march serves as a tribute to those who sacrificed their lives for justice.
"Starting tomorrow, Friday (September 6), we will take this march to divisional and district cities under the banner of the anti-discrimination movement," Alam added. "This is the moment to honor those who faced bullets for our cause. Tomorrow, students across the country will rise again."
Alam further expressed that the violence continues to haunt them, with survivors still bearing the physical and emotional scars. He urged the media to document these tragedies and emphasized that a victory march would only be possible once a new, just Bangladesh is realized.
Abu Bakr Majumdar, another coordinator, reiterated that those responsible for the killings would not go unpunished. He mentioned that a team is being assembled to identify the perpetrators, with a goal of combating corruption and extortion nationwide.
3 hanging bodies of same family recovered in Cumilla
The police recovered the hanging bodies of 3 members of the same family at Homna in Cumilla.
Their bodies were recovered around 10 am on Thursday (September 5).
The deceased are Mahamuda, daughter of Rezaul from Homna upazila's Bara Ghagutia village, maternal cousin Sahab, and maternal cousin's wife Tisha.
Homna police station OC Zainal Abedin confirmed the matter and said that initially, it was a planned murder. We are on the scene. Details will be given later.
Locals said, Bara Ghagutia Village Md. Shahporan worked in Dhaka. His wife, son, and brother's daughter Tisha were sleeping on Wednesday night. At night, miscreants killed them by twisting veils around their necks and ran away.
National Anthem Change not Contemplated: Religious Affairs Adviser
Religious Affairs Adviser AFM Khalid Hossain said, there is no thought of changing the National Anthem of Bangladesh. The interim government will not do anything that creates controversy.

Protest Shuts Down Traffic on Chattogram-Cox's Bazar Highway
Traffic on the Chattogram-Cox's Bazar highway was halted as transport workers staged a protest following an alleged attack on one of their senior drivers. The protest began early on Sunday, September 8, in the New Bridge area of Chattogram, where workers gathered, shouting slogans and blocking vehicles.
Passengers reported that no buses or large vehicles were running, and even smaller cars were stopped, with protesters forcing passengers to disembark.
According to the workers, the protest was sparked by an attack led by Musa, the secretary of the transport organization, after they opposed excessive extortion fees. They claim that Musa has been collecting inflated charges, and when workers protested, a senior driver was assaulted. Today’s protest aims to put an end to what they describe as Musa’s long-standing abuse of power.
Protesters compared Musa's actions to those of "dictator Hasina," accusing him of extorting Tk 1,680 from each bus traveling from Chattogram to Cox's Bazar. They further allege that Awami League MPs and ministers are benefiting from these extortion fees through various organizations and those who object are often met with violence.
A representative from the Arakan Road Transport Workers' Union expressed frustration, stating, "Musa has ruled over us without an election for 17 years, draining us with his illegal extortion. We are done with this dictatorship."
Army personnel have arrived at the scene to manage the situation, and leaders from several transport organizations are negotiating with the protesting workers to resolve the issue.
