Pilgrims flock to Ras festival in Kuakata. Hindu devotees started coming to Kuakata to celebrate the Ras festival from yesterday afternoon. A lot of devotees gathered at Kuakata Beach and Sri Sri Radhakrishna Temple on the festival of Ras.

On Friday (November 15), people encroached on an area of 2 km to the east and 1 km to the west, starting from zero point in Kuakata. Since morning, people of the Hindu religion have started to take seats around Sri Sri Radhakrishna Temple to perform religious rituals.

Kuakata Raspuja celebration committee president Kajal Baran Das said that Kuakata beach is bustling with thousands of pilgrims on Purnima Tithi.

At this time, he also said that the full moon started at 5:43 am today and will remain until 3:32 pm on Saturday (November 16). Therefore, like every year, on this full moon day, Hindu religious men and women will bathe in the sea at Kuakata in the hope of getting rid of their sins.

Engineer Nihar Ranjan Mondal, general secretary of the Kuakata Raspuja celebration committee, said, after the formal opening of the puja this evening, Naam Kirtan, Bhagwat reading, and Aarti will continue throughout the night. India's Kabita Ghosh will participate in Leela Kirtan of Sri Krishna.

At this time, he said, the Ras festival has started since yesterday. Tomorrow (Saturday) before sunrise, devotees will descend on the sea beach Kuakata in the hope of absolving their sins, according to Ras Purnima Time. On the same day, many people will perform different vows on the beach by bringing priests. People of different religions and races will also meet in Ras Puja, a sea-bathing ceremony.

Soumir, who participated in the Ras festival, said, "I wait for this day all year long." I come to bathe for 5 years and offer my vowed puja to Ganga so that Mother Ganga blesses me.

Kuakata Tourist Police Region Assistant Superintendent of Police Habibur Rahman said that since yesterday, the entire Kuakata has been covered with strict security. I am vigilant so that no miscreant can cause any trouble.

Upazila Executive Officer Mohammad Rabiul Islam said, we expect lakhs of people to gather on the occasion of Ras Purnima and holy bath, which have been going on for hundreds of years. To ensure the safety of the pilgrims coming for the holy bath in Kuakata, a security cordon has been created in coordination with the district, upazila, and municipal administrations. Apart from this, around 500 law and order forces including full-time police, Bangladesh army, tourist police, and village police are working for security.

The Chief Election Commissioner (CEC), A M M Nasir Uddin has stated that the Election Commission (EC) is working with a focus on national elections rather than local ones. This meeting involved the regional election officer at the Cumilla Regional Election Office, covering Cumilla, Noakhali, Chandpur, Lakshmipur, Feni, and Brahmanbaria districts. The discussions included preparations for updating the voter list and other related matters with senior district election officers, additional district election officers, and upazila election officers. The meeting was chaired by Cumilla Regional Election Officer Md. Dulal Talukder. CEC's personal secretary Md. Ashraful Alam; Deputy Project Director (Database) of the Election Commission Secretariat, Major Md. Mamunur Rashid; and other election officials working in the Cumilla region at both the district and upazila levels were also present at the meeting.

Attack on 'March for Unity' Convoy, Bagherhat Turns Into a Battlefield

Reports have emerged of an attack on the convoy of the anti-discrimination student movement's 'March for Unity' in Mollahat, Bagherhat. The incident occurred around 11:30 am on Tuesday (December 31) in Mollahat. It has been reported that 25 buses carrying students departed from Khulna Metropolitan City for Dhaka earlier in the morning. When the convoy reached the Madrasa Ghat area of Mollahat in Bagherhat, local assailants threw stones at the vehicles and stopped them, assaulting several people. As the students retaliated, the area quickly turned into a battlefield. The clash lasted for an hour, with reports of at least 20 people injured. Police and military forces are working to bring the situation under control. The students stated that the attackers, who were already prepared, launched the assault as the convoy passed through Mollahat around 11:30 am. They also alleged that local residents supported the attackers. Despite the incident taking place near the police station, the students claimed the police remained inactive. Regarding the incident, Jahurul Tanvir, coordinator of the Anti-Discrimination Movement in Khulna, said, "Our convoy was peacefully heading to Dhaka from Khulna. Along the way, we were attacked, leaving many injured. This attack was orchestrated by collaborators of the fascist government." He further added, "The attack was premeditated. However, no obstacle can deter us from our goal. Our brothers have shed their blood. Justice must be served promptly, and those responsible must be brought to justice and given exemplary punishment. Otherwise, the students themselves will identify and take action against the perpetrators."

Gas Pipeline Explosion in Habiganj, 4 Killed, 2 injured

Four individuals, including an engineer, were killed in an explosion at the gas substation line of Akij Group in Bahubal, Habiganj. The explosion occurred on Tuesday (December 31) around 9:00 am. The incident was confirmed by Bahubal Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Zahedul Islam. Among the deceased, the identities of two have been confirmed. Their names are Mizan Gazi and Mahfuz. It has been reported that both of them were workers at the factory. They were residents of Chandpur. Regarding the incident, OC Zahedul Islam said, "The explosion occurred around 9:00 am, claiming the lives of two people on the spot. Four others, who were seriously injured, were sent to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College. I have heard that two more succumbed to their injuries on the way to the hospital."

17 Forest Workers Abducted from Hill in Teknaf

A total of 17 forest workers have been abducted reportedly by miscreants from the hills in the Jadimura area of Teknaf, Cox's Bazar. The incident occurred on Monday morning (December 30) to the west of Teknaf's Jadimura area. The matter has been confirmed by Teknaf Upazila Executive Officer Sheikh Ehsan Uddin. The abducted individuals are: Ayub Khan (18), Ayub Ali (50), Ansar Ullah (18), Ayat Ullah (22), Shamchu (45), Islam (21), Shamchu (40), Ismail (35), Mohammad Hasim (40), Nur Mohammad (21), Syed Amin (30), Safi Ullah (30), Ayub (50), Mahata Amin (18), Saiful Islam (22), Syed (50), and Rafique (33). Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Teknaf Model Police Station, Gias Uddin, said, "Efforts are underway to rescue the abducted forest department workers. Police and other law enforcement agencies have reached the spot. We are actively addressing the matter." Teknaf Upazila Executive Officer Sheikh Ehsan Uddin added, “The forest department workers went to the hills in the morning for work under the department's supervision. During this time, we received news that some individuals had taken them away. Law enforcement agencies are working to rescue them.”

Trainee Doctors Block Shahbagh Intersection

Trainee doctors have occupied Shahbagh in Dhaka, demanding an increase in their monthly stipends. On Sunday (December 29), at around 11:30 am, postgraduate private trainee doctors blocked the Shahbagh intersection, demanding that their stipends be increased to 50,000 BDT. Shahbagh Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Khalid Monsur told the media that the trainee doctors came onto the road around 11:30 am. The blockade halted traffic movement, causing commuters to suffer. Earlier on December 21, the trainee doctors had set a deadline for increasing their monthly stipends. They warned that if their demands were not met, postgraduate private trainee doctors across the country would go on strike. In response, the government increased their stipend by 5,000 BDT (from 25,000 to 30,000 BDT). However, the trainee doctors rejected this decision and announced they would continue their movement.
