4 Killed as Auto-Rickshaw Crushed Between Truck and Van
Four passengers of an auto-rickshaw were killed in a tragic collision involving a covered van and a truck in Gazipur. The accident occurred around 11:30 PM on Wednesday (December 11) at the Chandana Intersection on the Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway.
The deceased have been identified as Saleha Akter TukTuki (26), Imran Hasan Rajon (38), Md. Mamun (23), and Md. Dulal (42).
According to police and hospital sources, a reckless truck rear-ended a passenger-carrying auto-rickshaw in the Chandana Intersection area. The impact pushed the auto-rickshaw into the back of a covered van, causing it to be crushed between the two vehicles.
One passenger died on the spot, while three others sustained critical injuries. Local residents rescued the injured and transported them to Gazipur Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital.
Dr. Sheikh Farhad, the Resident Medical Officer of the hospital, stated that a total of four individuals, including three men and one woman, were brought in two phases during the night.
“All of them were brought in dead,” Dr. Farhad confirmed. The bodies have been kept in the hospital morgue for autopsy.
Rahidul Islam, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Basan Police Station in Gazipur Metropolitan, confirmed the deaths. He added that the bodies would be handed over to their families following the autopsy.
"The truck driver and his assistant fled the scene after the accident," the OC said. "Legal proceedings are underway regarding the incident."
