
The government formed a five-member committee, chaired by Bridges Division Secretary Abdur Rouf, to investigate the incident in which a heavy bearing pad fell and killed a pedestrian near Farmgate Metro Station on Sunday.
After visiting the spot, Adviser to Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges Fouzul Kabir Khan told the media the committee will submit report within two weeks.
Also, the committee will review the previous investigation report and identify why such incidents are recurring.
A man, Abul Kalam of Naria upazila of Shariatpur district, died on Sunday when a heavy bearing pad, which is used to absorb vibrations from metro train movement, dislodged from the upper structure and fell on him.
The incident took place near Farmgate Metro Station around 12:30 pm.
The adviser also said that the government will provide BDT 5 lakh as compensation to the victim's family and arrange employment at the metro rail for a qualified family member, if available.
Engineers start installing bearing pad
Engineers and technicians from Bangladesh and Japan have jointly begun work to install a bearing pad.
"The work to install a bearing pad started around 3 pm today, soon after the incident," an official of the Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) told the media.
