A devastating fire broke out on Thursday afternoon in the Dewaliabari area of Konabari, Gazipur, engulfing several warehouses containing "jhut" (garment scrap).

At least six firefighting units are currently battling the blaze to prevent it from spreading further.

The fire originated around 4:15 pm at a warehouse in the locality.

According to local witnesses, smoke was first seen rising from one godown, but the flames quickly spiraled out of control, spreading to adjacent warehouses within minutes.

"Currently, six of our units are working to bring the fire under control. Because there are several jhut warehouses in close proximity, the fire spread rapidly. We are putting forth our maximum effort to contain the situation. Further details will be shared once the operation is complete," said Saiful Islam, Warehouse Inspector of the Konabari Modern Fire Station.
