A tragic fire broke out in a residential building in the capital’s Uttara area early Friday morning, claiming the lives of six people, including three family members and leaving several others injured.

The blaze erupted at approximately 7:50 am on the second floor of a seven-story building located on Road No. 18, Sector 11, confirmed by the Fire Service and Civil Defence (FSCD).

The identities of the three deceased have been confirmed. They are: Kazi Fazle Rabbi (38), his wife Afroza Akter Suborna (37) and their younger son Kazi Faiyaz Rishan (2).

While their identities have not yet been officially released, police reports indicate that all three victims were members of the same family.

Two firefighting units from the Uttara station arrived at the scene within minutes of the alert, bringing the flames under control by 8:25 am. The fire was completely extinguished by 10 am.

During the operation, firefighters successfully rescued 13 people who were trapped inside the smoke-filled structure.

The rescued individuals were rushed to the Kuwait Bangladesh Friendship Government Hospital, where three were pronounced dead upon arrival. The remaining ten are currently receiving treatment for various degrees of injury and smoke inhalation.

Authorities noted that the fire spread rapidly due to a high volume of furniture within the flat where the blaze originated.

The Uttara West Police and Fire Service officials have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the fire and assess the total financial damage.
