An elderly couple was brutally stabbed by their drug-addict son at Satmail Haibatpur village in Jessore early Monday morning.

The victims, identified as 70-year-old Ashir Uddin and his wife Rokeya, 60, are currently undergoing treatment at JessoreGeneral Hospital. According to the couple, their younger son, Saddam, woke them up around 3 am, aggressively demanding money to purchase drugs.

When the parents refused to comply, the situation turned violent. Saddam initially beat his father with a wooden stick before escalating the attack with a machete. Both parents were hacked multiple times as they attempted to defend themselves.

Hearing the desperate screams of the elderly couple, neighbors rushed to the scene and managed to rescue them, while the attacker fled into the darkness. Bichitra Mallik, the in-charge of the hospital’s emergency department, confirmed the severity of the assault.

He noted that both victims sustained multiple deep lacerations to their heads and bodies, including defensive wounds on their hands caused by the sharp weapon. The local community has expressed outrage over the incident, demanding the immediate arrest and exemplary punishment of Saddam.

Moniruzzaman, a Sub-Inspector at JessoreKotwali Police Station, stated that law enforcement is already working to track down the fugitive. "We are conducting raids to apprehend him, and formal legal action will be initiated as soon as a complaint is lodged," the SI added.
