Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Sheikh Md Sajjat Ali announced on Monday that 37 polling centres in the capital have been identified as "risky" ahead of the upcoming 13th National Parliament Election and the Referendum, which is scheduled for February 12.

During a press conference at the DMP Media Centre, the Commissioner detailed a comprehensive security plan designed to ensure a peaceful voting process across the city.

To mitigate potential threats, seven police personnel equipped with body-worn cameras will be stationed at each of the 37 high-risk centres, many of which are located in remote areas with narrow access roads.

Beyond the high-risk zones, the DMP has categorized the city’s remaining polling locations into 1,614 "important" stations and 517 "general" stations.

Important stations will see a deployment of four police personnel each, while general stations will be guarded by three officers. Commissioner Sajjat Ali emphasized that these measures are part of a broader strategy to prevent any untoward incidents during the elections and referendum.

A total of 25,000 DMP members have already undergone specialized election-related training to manage the polls. In addition to regular patrol units, the DMP’s Special Reserve Force, Bomb Disposal Unit and Dog Squad will remain on high alert to respond to any emergencies.

The briefing, attended by Additional Police Commissioner (Admin) Sarwar and Additional Police Commissioner SM Nazrul Islam, reaffirmed that extensive security layers have been established across Dhaka to facilitate a smooth and secure electoral environment.
