Dr Zubaida Rahman, wife of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, joined an Iftar event on Friday organized for underprivileged women and children at the Ziaur Rahman Foundation office in the capital’s Gulshan area.

More than fifty underprivileged women and children participated in the gathering. Addressing the event as the chief guest, Dr Zubaida Rahman—who also serves as the Vice President of the Ziaur Rahman Foundation—emphasized that women's security must remain the government's highest priority.

She underscored the administration's belief that ensuring the safety and comprehensive human development of the girl child is essential for the nation's progress.

Dr Zubaida Rahman advocated for a robust support system for young girls, highlighting the need for both academic and vocational education to transform them into competent citizens.

"The government is committed to keeping women at the center of social development," she stated.

In a move to bolster future employment prospects, she announced that secondary-level students would be taught a third language to increase their competitiveness in domestic and international job markets.

Furthermore, she noted that vocational training is being integrated into the secondary-level curriculum to expand career opportunities for the youth.

Turning her attention to the industrial sector, specifically garment workers, Dr Zubaida Rahman stressed the necessity of six months of paid maternity leave across all industries.

She also called for the establishment of daycare centers, safe housing, and secure transportation for female laborers. "Only when a woman can go to her workplace safely can true women's empowerment be realized," she remarked.

The event was attended by the Executive Director of the foundation, Prof. Dr. Farhad Halim Donar, Director Prof. Dr. A.B.M. Obaidul Islam, Advisers Barrister Nasiruddin Asim and Eng.
