Five Children Drown while Swimming in Pagla River in Chapainawabganj

Five minors, comprising two sets of brothers and sisters, tragically lost their lives by drowning while swimming in the Pagla River within the Char Chakla area of Chapainawabganj Sadar upazila on Friday afternoon.

The victims were formally identified as Sumaiya (10) and Arifa (8) both daughters of Masud Ali; Suraiya (9) and Sumaiya (11) both daughters of Nezam Uddin; alongside Sharifa (11) daughter of Shariful Islam.

Every one of the children resided in the Char Chakla neighborhood.

Sadar Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Ekramul Hossain explained that a group of minors headed down to the river around 1 pm to take a bath, during which five of them went under.

Area residents subsequently scoured the waterway and retrieved the bodies of all five children individually.

Law enforcement officers were dispatched to the location immediately after being notified of the tragedy, he added.
