Renovation work of Sri Sri Rakshakali Temple and Sri Sri Durga Temple in Mohakhali in the capital has begun to fulfill Prime Minister Tarique Rahman's election promise.

Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Administrator Abdus Salam and Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Administrator Shafiqul Islam Milton inaugurated the renovation work of the two temples in front of the Tuberculosis Hospital in Mohakhali this morning.

Mohakhali area falls under Dhaka-17 constituency. Before the parliamentary elections on February 12, BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman had promised to renovate this temple and build a new theatre in the temple premises.

The city corporation today inaugurated the work of the temple less than a month after winning the election and forming the government. Dhaka North City Corporation is funding this renovation work.

Speaking on the occasion, DNCC Administrator Md. Shafiqul Islam Khan Milton said that Prime Minister Tarique Rahman remains very worried until he can implement the promise he made to the people.

"We have come to inaugurate the renovation work of this temple promised by the Prime Minister and the work will start from today. From a moral point of view, we have no differences among religions or castes. Everyone will follow their own religion. We will cooperate with you," he said.

Mentioning that in this Bangladesh every citizen will practice respective religious beliefs, the DNCC administrator said, "We will always be by your side. You will follow your religion without fear. Let us know about any matter, if our local leaders do any injustice to you for any reason or if someone from outside or around does that, let us know about that matter."

DSCC Administrator Abdus Salam said, "We believe in the freedom of all religions. I can say it well, BNP has never called you a minority, BNP has never allowed any oppression, persecution or torture against you."

He added, "Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has a plan, if he can implement all the things he wants to do, by the grace of Allah, then you will see that the face of everything would change."

Among others present at the event were BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman's advisors Farhad Dalim Doner and Bijon Kanti Sarkar, Hindu Welfare Trust director Tapan Majumder and Gulshan Banani Puja Celebration Committee president JL Bhowmik.
