The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) said on Friday that they have not identified any specific security threats regarding the June 23 founding anniversary of the Awami League, though the force remains on high alert to ensure public safety.

During a media briefing held at the DMP Media Centre on Minto Road, Additional Commissioner (Crime and Operations) S.N. Nazrul Islam addressed the upcoming date, stating, “June 23 is the founding anniversary of a political party. We are on alert centring on the day.”

He confirmed that the police have implemented necessary security measures to maintain order throughout the capital, noting that ongoing security checkpoints at various locations will continue as part of these efforts.

During the briefing, Commissioner Nazrul Islam also addressed questions regarding “Kalya Faruk,” an alleged extortionist recently arrested in Mohammadpur.

When asked about reports that Faruk had been released on bail and resumed his illicit activities, Nazrul Islam emphasized that the police's mandate is separate from judicial processes.

“Whether they will punish someone or not is a matter for the court,” he explained. “But we will continue to do our job.”

The Additional Commissioner reiterated that the police remain committed to their core mission of law enforcement, promising that efforts to track down and apprehend criminals will not be hindered.

“Police will continue arresting terrorists, drug traffickers and extortionists, and sending them to court for legal proceedings,” he stated.
