Residents of the Dhanua Kamalpur border area in Jamalpur’s Bakshiganj upazila have raised urgent concerns regarding illegal soil excavation occurring along the international zero line.

For the past three days, local reports indicate that Indian citizens have been extracting soil near international border pillar number 1083 and transporting it away using Mahindra vehicles.

The situation has sparked significant frustration among local farmers in Dhanua village.

Residents pointed out a double standard, noting that while Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has restricted Bangladeshi citizens from approaching the border area through public announcements, Indian nationals have been able to excavate and remove soil without apparent interference.

Farmers emphasized that such activity on the zero line constitutes a violation of international law and have formally requested that the BGB intervene to permanently halt the practice.

Addressing these concerns, Assistant Director Imam Hossain of the Jamalpur 35 BGB clarified the force's operational stance.

He explained that the BGB routinely intervenes and blocks any attempts by Indian citizens to cut soil from lands immediately adjacent to the border.

Regarding the current situation, Imam Hossain confirmed that the reported excavation activity has been brought to a halt.
