Vigilant Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), heavily supported by local villagers, successfully foiled an attempt by India's Border Security Force (BSF) to push 12 individuals into Bangladeshi territory through the Chakpara border in Shibganj upazila of Chapainawabganj district late Friday night.

According to Lt Col Tajul Islam Chowdhury, the commanding officer of BGB's Mahananda-59 Battalion, who briefed reporters on Saturday, the incident began unfolding at around 11 pm on Friday.

Members of the BSF's 119 Battalion, operating from the Mallik-Sultanpur border outpost, deliberately switched off the border floodlights near border pillar No. 183/3-S as they prepared to execute the push-in of the 12 individuals into Bangladesh.

Immediately after receiving information regarding the suspicious activity, a BGB patrol team rushed to the specific border location.

Recognizing the developing situation, local villagers also quickly mobilized and joined forces with the border guards to maintain a highly vigilant presence directly along the frontier.

The 12 individuals, caught in transit, were spotted waiting in the Muslimpara area, positioned roughly 600 yards inside Indian territory from the zero line.

Due to the staunch and unyielding resistance demonstrated by the combined presence of the BGB and local citizens, the BSF members eventually aborted their mission and took the 12 people back to a holding centre in Malda, India, at around 4:30 am on Saturday, Lt Col Tajul added.

Emphasizing the paramilitary force's unwavering stance on border security, Lt Col Tajul Islam Chowdhury stated that the BGB remains on maximum alert to prevent any illegal border crossing or push-in attempt.

To guarantee this security, he further noted that regular patrols and intelligence surveillance have been significantly strengthened all along the border area.
