Farmers obstructed the Lalmonirhat-Burimari highway for roughly half an hour on Sunday, voicing demands for a sufficient supply of fertilizer alongside the termination of “syndicates in the fertilizer trade.”
The farmers hauled timber logs onto the roadway directly in front of a Bangladesh Agriculture and Fertilizer Association warehouse located in Mahendranagar at approximately 11 am.
They alleged that they are failing to secure adequate fertilizer during the peak agricultural season, which prevents them from applying it to their crop fields punctually.
The road blockade generated extended queues of vehicular traffic extending along both flanks of the highway.
The farmers lifted the blockade after approximately 30 minutes following explicit assurances delivered by the district administration.
The deputy commissioner, superintendent of police, upazila nirbahi officer, and local chairman subsequently inspected the spot.
Lalmonirhat DC Md Rashedul Hoque Prodhan maintained that zero scarcity of fertilizer exists across the district.
He stated that authorities would launch investigations and execute necessary measures if any concrete allegations concerning irregularities are brought forward.
