A 20-year-old youth named Jahid has been killed in a cocktail bomb explosion during a clash between two rival groups at the Geneva Camp in Mohammadpur, Dhaka. The incident occurred around 3:30 AM on Wednesday (October 22). He was rescued in a critically injured state and rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), where doctors declared him dead in the early morning. In-charge of the Dhaka Medical Police Camp, Md. Faruk, confirmed the death. Mohammadpur Police Station Duty Officer, Md. Atikur Rahman Jewel, stated that they received a report in the morning about extensive cocktail bomb explosions between two groups in the Geneva Camp. A team was immediately dispatched to the scene, but the situation had already calmed down by then. He mentioned that upon arrival, police learned that one person had been injured in the incident, but no one could provide further details about the victim. Meanwhile, the friends of the deceased at the hospital said that Jahid was a graphic designer. They explained that he was out with friends at night and got caught in the middle of the clash between the two groups. He was severely injured when a cocktail bomb exploded near his feet. He was rescued and taken to the hospital, where doctors examined him and pronounced him dead.

A young man named Rakib Hossain (21) died in a mob beating in the City Housing area of Mohammadpur in the capital on suspicion of being a robber. Another person with Rakib, Milon Hossain (38), was injured during the incident. The incident occurred in the Bosila City Housing area of Mohammadpur in the early hours of Thursday (May 15th). The deceased Rakib was the son of Anisul Haque from Charfasson in Bhola, and the injured Milon was the son of the late Kashem Mistri from Dakshin Aicha in Bhola. Both of them resided in the Bosila area. The injured Milon has been admitted to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital under police custody. Upon investigation, it was learned that several robbers were committing robbery on Road No. 4 of the City Housing area in the early hours of Thursday. Hearing the screams, locals chased them and managed to apprehend two individuals, while the others fled. The injured were rescued and taken to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital. Rakib died while undergoing treatment there, and Milon is currently receiving treatment at the same hospital. Hafiz Uddin, Inspector (Investigation) of Mohammadpur Police Station, stated that a machete was recovered from the two alleged robbers. Information has been found indicating that there was a previous theft case against Rakib at Mohammadpur Police Station. Jewel Rana, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADC) of the Mohammadpur Zone under the Tejgaon Division, said that locals caught them in the act of robbery in the morning and subjected them to a mob beating. Both fell ill as a result. One of them died after being taken to the hospital. A regular case is being filed in connection with this incident.

Tension has spread across Dhaka University (DU) campus following the stabbing death of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) leader Shahriar Alam Samya in Sohrawardy Udyan, adjacent to the university. The physician on duty at Dhaka Medical College Hospital declared him dead after he was taken there in a bloody condition around midnight on Tuesday (May 13).  Later, around 2:00 AM, a team led by the Deputy Commissioner (DC) of the Detective Branch (DB) of Ramna Division conducted a raid in Sohrawardy Udyan and detained five individuals. Earlier, Shahriar Alam Samya, a student of the 2018-19 session at the Institute of Education and Research of Dhaka University and the literary and publication secretary of Sir A F Rahman Hall Chhatra Dal, was riding his motorcycle past the Mukta Mancha on Tuesday night when it collided with an outsider biker.  Following an argument and scuffle, Samya was repeatedly stabbed. He was later rescued and taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), where doctors pronounced him dead. In protest against this murder, university students gathered in front of the residence of Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Niaz Ahmed late at night and brought out a protest procession across the campus. At this time, other students also expressed solidarity and participated in the demonstration.

Rakibul Islam Rakib, the central president of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD), has stated that Shahriar Alam Samya, who was killed, was a long-tested student leader of their organization.  He mentioned Samya's significant roles in past movements against what he termed a "fascist regime," including the July-August protests. He made these remarks to reporters on Tuesday night (May 13) in the Sohrawardy Udyan area of the capital, following the stabbing of Shahriar Alam Samya, the literary and publication secretary of the Dhaka University (DU) Sir A F Rahman Hall unit of JCD, by terrorists. Samya was a Masters student in the Education and Research department of Dhaka University, from the 2018-19 session. He resided in Sir F Rahman Hall and hailed from Ullapara Thana in Sirajganj. The central president of Chhatra Dal said that Samya was a very popular and meritorious student leader among his classmates. "We are not immediately seeking political motives behind this. We demand justice for the murder of our comrade. Whoever the killers are, they must be brought under exemplary punishment." Rakibul Islam Rakib further commented that the incident reflects the long-standing unsafe campus environment at Dhaka University.  He described Sohrawardy Udyan as a completely unsafe place where drug addicts openly consume drugs day and night.  He added that after midnight, the areas surrounding the Dhaka University campus become havens for drugs, a situation that has been ongoing for months. He expressed doubt about the police administration's capability to apprehend those responsible, given the reality of the post-July-August movement. "We have raised these issues at various times, but there has been no remedy. After today's incident, I believe Sohrawardy Udyan must be brought under a complete security blanket to ensure the safe movement of Dhaka University students there." According to Rafi, a classmate who brought Shahriar Alam Samya to the hospital, the incident occurred around midnight when Samya was riding his motorcycle past the Mukta Mancha. His motorcycle collided with another motorcycle.  Following an altercation and scuffle with the individuals on the other motorcycle, seven or eight unidentified individuals arrived and indiscriminately stabbed him with sharp weapons before fleeing.  He was rescued in critical condition and taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.

Authorities have identified the masked individual involved in the arson attack at Dhaka University's Faculty of Fine Arts, but no arrest has been made as of yet. The incident occurred early Saturday, just before the Barshabaran Ananda Shobhajatra, a traditional procession held on Pahela Baishakh, the first day of the Bangla New Year. CCTV footage showing the suspect setting fire to a sculpture titled "Face of a Fascist" went viral on Sunday, sparking outrage on social media. Students from the university's Department of Arabic claimed the arsonist was one of their classmates. They alleged he is affiliated with the banned student group Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), the student wing of the Awami League.  The student in question is reportedly from the 2021–22 academic session and previously resided in Masterda Surja Sen Hall. He is said to be a follower of Mazharul Kabir Shayon, the president of the DU unit of BCL. Police say the public exposure of the suspect’s identity has complicated efforts to detain him. "Now that his identity is known, he'll try to go into hiding," said Masud Alam, Deputy Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police's Ramna Division. "However, our operation to track him and his accomplices is ongoing." Though DMP Commissioner Sheikh Mohammad Sajjad Ali had assured the public of an arrest before Monday morning's New Year procession, the suspect remains at large. A case was filed at Shahbagh Police Station following the incident. The arson completely destroyed the "Face of a Fascist" motif and partially damaged the "Dove of Peace", both part of DU’s long-standing Pahela Baishakh celebrations.
