A young man named Rakib Hossain (21) died in a mob beating in the City Housing area of Mohammadpur in the capital on suspicion of being a robber. Another person with Rakib, Milon Hossain (38), was injured during the incident.
The incident occurred in the Bosila City Housing area of Mohammadpur in the early hours of Thursday (May 15th).
The deceased Rakib was the son of Anisul Haque from Charfasson in Bhola, and the injured Milon was the son of the late Kashem Mistri from Dakshin Aicha in Bhola. Both of them resided in the Bosila area. The injured Milon has been admitted to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital under police custody.
Upon investigation, it was learned that several robbers were committing robbery on Road No. 4 of the City Housing area in the early hours of Thursday. Hearing the screams, locals chased them and managed to apprehend two individuals, while the others fled.
The injured were rescued and taken to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital. Rakib died while undergoing treatment there, and Milon is currently receiving treatment at the same hospital.
Hafiz Uddin, Inspector (Investigation) of Mohammadpur Police Station, stated that a machete was recovered from the two alleged robbers. Information has been found indicating that there was a previous theft case against Rakib at Mohammadpur Police Station.
Jewel Rana, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADC) of the Mohammadpur Zone under the Tejgaon Division, said that locals caught them in the act of robbery in the morning and subjected them to a mob beating. Both fell ill as a result. One of them died after being taken to the hospital. A regular case is being filed in connection with this incident.
