LNG from Qatar arrives in Bangladesh

For the first time Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) is being imported in the country. The first consignment of the LNG from Qatar has arrived at the zero point of Sonadia island in Maheshkhali in Cox’s Bazar on Tuesday.

Director of Seacom Shipping Lines Limited, the ship’s (Excellence) Bangladeshi agent, Jahur Ahmed said, there is 1 lakh 36 thousand cubic meters LNG in the 277 meters long, 44 meters wide and 12.5 meters draft based ship.

UNO of Maheshkhali Abul Kalam said, the LNG will be released from the ship in the next month.

Then the ship will be placed as a floating terminal at a place 3 kilometers away from the coast. Bangladesh government will provide ship rent to the foreign owner agency for 15 years. After that it will come under ownership of Bangladesh.

The LNG will be transformed into natural gas using heat of sea water. Then it will be supplied in to national grid through pipeline.
