Gold prices in Bangladesh have recorded another upward revision as the Bangladesh Jewellers Association (BAJUS) hiked the rate of high-grade 22-carat gold jewelry by BDT 1,108 per bhori (11.664 grams).
The industry trade body announced the adjusted pricing structure on Tuesday, with the updated rates taking effect from 10 am.
Under this latest tariff, consumers will need to pay BDT 235,146 per bhori for 22-carat gold jewelry, inclusive of Value Added Tax (VAT), reflecting an increase from the previous cost of BDT 234,038.
Explaining the surge, BAJUS indicated that the upward momentum was primarily propelled by a rise in the cost of local refined "Tejabi" gold in the domestic market.
The latest adjustment follows a significant hike implemented just three days prior on August 8, when the trade association had escalated 22-carat gold prices by BDT 4,374.
Prices across other purity grades of gold jewelry also registered corresponding gains.
The value of 21-carat gold moved up by BDT 1,049, bringing its rate to BDT 224,590 per bhori, while 18-carat gold became costlier by BDT 933 to reach BDT 192,864 per bhori.
Furthermore, traditional "sanatani" gold jewelry saw its price advance by BDT 700, establishing a new rate of BDT 157,522 per bhori.
Alongside the gold market adjustment, BAJUS escalated silver jewelry prices across all categories.
The price of 22-carat silver climbed by BDT 175 to stand at BDT 5,074 per bhori, while 21-carat silver rose by an identical margin of BDT 175, settling at BDT 4,841 per bhori.
Additionally, 18-carat silver recorded an increase of BDT 175 to hit BDT 4,199 per bhori, whereas silver items crafted under the traditional system experienced a BDT 116 hike, bringing the rate to BDT 3,159 per bhori.
