
Mustakur Rahman Jahid, the candidate from the Islami Chhatra Shibir-backed panel, 'Sammilita Shikkharthi Jote' (Combined Students' Alliance), has been elected Vice-President (VP) of the Rajshahi University Central Students' Union (RUCSU).
The post of General Secretary (GS) went to Salauddin Ammar, an independent candidate from the 'Adhipattyabirodhi Oikya' (Anti-Domination Unity) panel.
S M Salman Sabbir, a candidate from the Combined Students' Alliance, won the post of Assistant General Secretary (AGS).
The results were announced on Friday (October 17) following the vote count from all 17 polling centers of the university.
According to the announced results, Mostakur Rahman Jahid secured 12,687 votes for the VP position, defeating his nearest rival, Sheikh Nur Uddin Abir, backed by Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, who received 3,397 votes. The margin between the two candidates stands at 9,290 votes.
In the GS race, independent candidate Salahuddin Ammar received 11,537 votes. His nearest rival, Shibir-backed Fazle Rabbi Fahim Reza, got 5,729 votes, putting Ammar's margin of victory at 5,808 votes.
The contest for Assistant General Secretary (AGS) was comparatively closer. Shibir-backed Salman Sabbir won the post with 6,971 votes, while his rival, Chhatra Dal-backed Jahin Biswash Esha, secured 5,941 votes. The difference was just 1,030 votes.
A total of 247 candidates from 10 panels contested for 23 posts in RUCSU, 597 candidates for 15 posts across 17 hall councils, and 58 candidates for five Student Representative seats in the Senate election. Specifically for RUCSU, 18 candidates vied for VP, 13 for GS, and 16 for AGS.
The total number of eligible voters was 28,901, comprising 11,305 female students and 17,596 male students. The overall voter turnout was 69.83 percent, with the six female halls recording a turnout of 63.24 percent.
