Primary and Mass Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon has announced a major overhaul of the national curriculum, aiming to transform the "conventional" education system into one that is strictly skill-based and job-oriented.
Speaking as the chief guest at a discussion held at the Primary Teachers Training Institute (PTI) in Mirpur on Saturday, the Minister critiqued the current academic framework for contributing to rising unemployment.
"Education is not meant to increase joblessness; it must serve as a tool for creating a skilled workforce," Milon stated during the event, which was organized to mark Shaheed Day and International Mother Language Day.
The Minister emphasized that while Bengali remains the primary medium for national identity and thought, the government will prioritize English as a second language to ensure global competitiveness.
He also pledged to take active steps to preserve the languages of the country's small ethnic communities.
State Minister for Primary and Mass Education, Bobby Hajjaj, attending as a special guest, issued a stern warning regarding administrative integrity.
He declared a "zero tolerance" policy against corruption across all departments of the ministry for the next five years.
Hajjaj outlined a three-pillar strategy for reform—Curriculum, Classroom, and Consistency—and committed to achieving qualitative coordination between Bengali medium, English medium, technical, and madrasah education systems.
The program was presided over by Secretary Abu Taher Md. Masud Rana, with Director General Abu Noor Md. Shamsuzzaman and other senior officials in attendance.
