The Ministry of Education has formally moved to address faculty shortages by requesting the Finance Ministry’s approval for the creation of 1,461 temporary teaching positions across 11 government colleges.
The proposal, finalized via a letter signed by Manjurul Alam, Senior Assistant Secretary of the Secondary and Higher Education Division, outlines a multi-tiered recruitment plan.
The requested posts include: 255 Professors, 213 Associate Professors, 458 Assistant Professors and 535 Lecturers.
Speaking to the media on Saturday, Professor Dr. Khan Moinuddin Al Mahmud Sohel, Director General of the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE), revealed that this initiative is part of a much larger expansion.
He noted that a broader proposal to create new positions in 91 government colleges is currently under consideration.
"Recruitment will commence shortly if the initial proposal for these 11 colleges is approved," Dr. Sohel stated.
The Finance Ministry’s Expenditure Management Division has since requested the DSHE’s formal opinion on the necessity and management of these funds.
In its response, the DSHE has recommended a positive reconsideration of the proposal, urging the government to take the necessary steps to finalize the recruitment process.
