Government to Honor 101 Accomplished Educators Today

Today marks World Teachers' Day. In recognition of their vital contributions to nation-building, the government is honoring 101 distinguished educators from across primary to higher education levels today. Each recipient will receive Tk200,000, a crest, and a certificate of honor.

The award ceremony will take place today, Monday (October 5), at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium in Dhaka.

Organized by the Ministry of Education, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is scheduled to attend the event as the chief guest. Dr. A. N. M. Ehsanul Hoque Milan, Minister for the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education, will preside over the ceremony.

Special guests will include Md. Selim Bhuiyan, MP, Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Education, and Mahadi Amin, Advisor to the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Primary and Mass Education, and Spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office. State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Bobby Hajjaj will also deliver a speech.

Theme and Objectives
This year's World Teachers' Day theme is: “Valuing teachers’ voices: Towards a new social contract for education” (rendered locally as "Valuing Teachers: 60 Years of Protecting the Profession, Advancing Dignity, and Shaping Our Future").

The primary objectives of celebrating the day are to acknowledge teachers' pivotal roles in building the nation and to elevate their social standing through public recognition.

Breakdown of Award Recipients

A total of 101 educators spanning various tiers of academia will be honored:

Primary Level: 10 teachers (8 general, 2 madrasah)
Secondary Level: 20 teachers (10 general secondary, 5 technical, 5 madrasah)
College Level: 25 teachers (15 general, 5 technical, 5 madrasah)
General Universities: 20 teachers (18 public, 2 private)
Medical Education: 10 teachers (5 from medical colleges, 5 from medical universities)
Agricultural Universities: 3 teachers
Engineering Universities: 3 teachers
Science & Technology / Specialized Universities: 4 teachers
Prime Minister's Special Selection: 6 teachers

Selection Process
Separate search committees were formed by the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education, Directorate of Primary Education, Directorate of Madrasah Education, and Directorate of Technical Education to select deserving candidates.

These committees drafted a panel of three candidates for every single slot and forwarded them to the National Steering Committee for final approval.

Similarly, search committees formed by the University Grants Commission (UGC) prepared panels of three for university-level categories and submitted them to the national steering body for final selection.

The National Steering Committee retains the authority to adjust the number of awards if necessary due to special circumstances.

Nationwide Celebrations
World Teachers' Day is observed annually on October 5 as declared by UNESCO. To mark the occasion, various programs will be carried out nationwide through committees formed at the upazila, district, and national levels.

Celebrations will take place simultaneously across all educational institutions in the country, encompassing primary and secondary schools, colleges, madrasahs, technical institutes, general universities, medical colleges and universities, engineering universities, science and technology universities, and agricultural universities.
