Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan was known to be a chain smoker. However, on his 59th birthday yesterday, he revealed that he has finally quit smoking for good. Quitting a long-standing habit wasn’t easy, though. How has he been feeling since he stopped?

In an interview, Shah Rukh once admitted he could smoke up to 100 cigarettes a day. Now, on his 59th birthday, the former chain smoker announced to his fans, “I don’t smoke anymore.” He added, “Initially, I thought giving up smoking might make breathing difficult, but it hasn’t been an issue. Although, yes, making such a drastic change is causing some temporary discomfort, which I hope will pass soon.”

Shah Rukh’s birthday is a major event for his fans, who gather outside his residence, Mannat, carrying placards, flowers, and cakes, chanting his name in excitement. This year, his 59th birthday saw the same enthusiastic crowd filling the streets of Bandra. From midnight, fans began gathering outside Mannat to celebrate with him.

For over three decades, King Khan has kept up the tradition of appearing on Mannat’s terrace during Eid and his birthday to greet his fans—a tradition even the pandemic didn’t disrupt. However, this year, Shah Rukh broke with tradition, choosing instead to celebrate his birthday privately with fans at Bal Gandharva Rang Mandir near Mannat, dressed in simple attire.

At the event, Shah Rukh was even seen dancing. He was invited by a fan club, and he accepted their invitation. But this left the many fans who waited outside Mannat all day heartbroken, as they didn’t get a glimpse of him this time.

The fan club shared glimpses of the event, including a fan who had traveled all the way from China to Mumbai just to meet him. The video captured this moment as well.
