Attacks on Shilpakala Academy
Questions And Ultimatums of Theatre Workers to Chief Advisor
Alleging that there is no opportunity to practice art culture safely in the country and expressing anger over the attack on theatre workers, many questions have been raised by the leaders of theatre workers and group theatre federations to the chief advisor of the interim government. They also gave an ultimatum to answer and solve these before November 15.
The leaders of the Bangladesh Group Theatre Federation (BGTF) held an emergency press conference at the seminar room of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy at around 11 o'clock on Saturday (November 9).
General secretary of the organization Kamal Bayezid, dramatist Jhuna Chowdhury, Masum Reza, and many others were present in it.
The questions of the theatre workers to the chief advisor at the conference are-
What have the theatre workers done?
Who are the perpetrators?
What is their complaint?
Cultural activists are friends of the Awami League?
Is it safe to practice art culture in this country?
Many such questions were raised in the emergency meeting.
Complaints were also raised against the law enforcement agencies. The federation and theater workers feel that the law and order forces did not take any action even after being present at the scene on November 8. So they will wait till November 15 until the security system is strengthened for acting. After that, the next decision will be informed by the organization.
Besides demanding a fair investigation into the attack by the miscreants, they also demanded a speedy solution from the Chief Advisor to create an environment for the fine arts by taking urgent measures against terrorists.
On November 1, the stage play 'Nityapuran' was performed at the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy. But in the face of miscreants, it was decided to stop the stage play in the middle of the exhibition.
In protest of this incident, the Bangladesh Group Theater Federation called a rally in front of Shilpakala Academy on Friday (November 8) afternoon. At the end of the rally, playwright and actor Mamunur Rashid said, "This 'Nityapuran' play is a deeper manifestation of the inequality of the society."
