The measles outbreak in Bangladesh continues to escalate, with the death toll rising to 716 following the loss of four more children in the 24 hours leading up to 8 am on Monday.

According to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), these latest fatalities have been classified as suspected measles deaths.

This update brings the total number of suspected measles-related deaths to 623, while the number of laboratory-confirmed deaths remains steady at 93.

The scale of the outbreak is further evidenced by the rising infection figures, with 1,004 new suspected cases reported over the same 24-hour period, pushing the cumulative number of suspected cases nationwide past the 100,000 mark to a total of 100,211.

Additionally, 141 new cases were laboratory-confirmed, bringing the total count of confirmed infections to 11,851.

Data provided by the DGHS indicates that since April 10, a total of 83,806 patients suffering from suspected measles have been hospitalised across the country.

Of those hospitalised, 80,193 patients have successfully recovered, reflecting ongoing efforts to manage the health crisis as medical facilities continue to respond to the surge in cases.
