Dengue Claims 3 More Lives in 24 Hours, Death Toll Reaches 70

At least three more people have lost their lives to dengue as 805 new patients were hospitalized with the mosquito-borne fever across the country over the past 24 hours, health authorities said on Sunday.

According to a press statement issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), the fresh hospital admissions include 156 cases in Dhaka division, 149 in Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) areas, 112 in Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) jurisdiction, 97 in Khulna division, 82 in Chattogram division, 80 in Barishal division, 65 in Mymensingh division, 55 in Rajshahi division, seven in Rangpur division, and two in Sylhet division.

With these latest casualties and infections, the nationwide dengue death toll for the current year has reached 70, while total recorded cases have risen to 23,978 since the onset of this year's outbreak.

Comparative health statistics indicate that the virus claimed 413 lives and infected 102,861 people across Bangladesh last year.

In 2024, the disease registered 575 fatalities alongside 101,214 total hospitalizations.
