3 More Children Die of Measles-Like Symptoms, Tally Rises to 933

Three children died with measles-like symptoms in the 24 hours until 8 am on Sunday, bringing the country’s combined tally of confirmed and suspected measles-related deaths to 933 this year, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

The DGHS has classified all three of the latest fatalities as suspected measles deaths.

With these additions, the total number of suspected measles deaths has reached 834, while confirmed deaths from measles have remained unchanged at 99.

Two Deaths Recorded as Measles Symptom Cases Rise to 148,406

A total of 1,097 new suspected measles cases were reported during the 24-hour period, bringing the cumulative number of suspected cases nationwide to 149,503.

Meanwhile, 131 new confirmed measles cases were recorded, bringing the total number of laboratory-confirmed infections to 18,404.

Since March 15 this year, a total of 130,609 patients with suspected measles have been hospitalised across the country, of whom 125,975 have recovered, according to DGHS data.
