A specialized 'green channel' has been established at a medical center in Kunming, China, to streamline access to advanced ophthalmic care for Bangladeshi patients, offering expedited appointments, language interpretation assistance, and post-treatment follow-up services.
The initiative was officially inaugurated at Kunming Huaxia Eye Hospital in southwestern China on Saturday, with Bangladesh Consul General in Kunming Shahnaz Ranu unveiling the commemorative plaque marking the launch, according to a press release issued here.
She additionally launched the Huaxia Ophthalmology International Forum 2026 on the occasion.
First Secretary (Commercial) of the Bangladesh Consulate General Ridwanur Rahman and Vice President of Huaxia Eye Hospital Zhang Zhiyong attended the event.
According to the press release, under the new setup, Bangladeshi patients will be eligible to obtain medical consultations and have their health records evaluated prior to traveling to China for medical care.
Following their arrival, they will receive priority scheduling and support via a dedicated international service desk.
The program will also supply translation services to assist patients in navigating language barriers and facilitate follow-up assessments after their return to Bangladesh.
Addressing the opening ceremony, Shahnaz Ranu underscored Bangladesh's advancements within the public health sector and the achievements of the nation's eye care institutions.
"Ensuring quality and safe medical care, maintaining transparency in treatment costs and upholding patients' dignity are the key expectations of the Bangladesh Consulate General," she said.
The consul general further urged the hospital management to contribute not only toward expanding access to eye treatment in China for Bangladeshi patients but also toward fortifying Bangladesh's domestic ophthalmic care capabilities.
She specifically emphasized the necessity of training Bangladeshi eye specialists and nurses, introducing teleconsultation services, and building collaborative partnerships with eye care institutions in Bangladesh.
Such measures could assist in elevating the capacity to deliver advanced eye care domestically within Bangladesh, she observed.
The introduction of the green channel is anticipated to set up a coordinated support network for Bangladeshi eye patients seeking medical attention in China, encompassing pre-travel consultations, hospital bookings, and post-treatment monitoring.
The endeavor also underscores prospects for broadening professional training and institutional collaboration between Bangladesh and China in the domain of ophthalmology.
