The information was reported by Anadolu on Tuesday (February 25).

According to the news agency, a prisoners' rights group stated that since the war on Gaza began in October 2023, at least 59 Palestinian prisoners have died in Israeli custody.

In a statement, the Palestinian Prisoners Society reported that 38 of the deceased were from the Gaza Strip. The organization also accused Israeli authorities of concealing information regarding the deaths of Gazan detainees.

Earlier, on Monday, Gaza’s Prisoners Commission reported that a detainee named Musab Hani Haniyeh had died in Israeli custody. The 35-year-old was arrested by Israeli forces on March 3, 2024, from the southern city of Khan Yunis. His family stated that Haniyeh was in perfect health before his arrest.

Statistics show that since Israel’s occupation of the West Bank and Gaza in 1967, at least 296 Palestinian prisoners have died in Israeli prisons. Currently, at least 10,000 Palestinians remain imprisoned in Israel, excluding those recently arrested from Gaza.

A ceasefire in Gaza has been in effect since January 19 as part of a three-phase agreement, which includes prisoner exchanges, a permanent ceasefire, and the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza. Despite a UN Security Council resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire, Israel had continued its brutal attacks on the besieged territory.

Meanwhile, according to the latest figures from Gaza’s Ministry of Health, the death toll from Israel’s genocidal war in Gaza since October 2023 has reached approximately 48,350 Palestinians, with over hundreds of thousands injured.

The United Nations reports that due to Israel’s relentless assault, about 85% of Gaza’s population has been displaced, and 60% of the enclave’s infrastructure has been either damaged or completely destroyed. Israel is already facing genocide charges at the International Court of Justice (ICJ).
