Chinese President Xi Jinping and US President Donald Trump held a private meeting on Friday at Zhongnanhai, the central leadership compound in Beijing, marking a significant moment ahead of the conclusion of Trump’s state visit to China.

The meeting took place a day after the two leaders held formal talks, beginning with a walk through the compound’s gardens where they engaged in informal discussions.

President Xi described the visit as historic, stating that both nations had outlined a new vision for a constructive China-US relationship based on strategic stability.

He noted that the two countries had reached key understandings on maintaining stable trade and economic ties, expanding cooperation in multiple sectors, and addressing mutual concerns.

Additionally, Xi mentioned that both sides agreed to enhance coordination on regional and international issues, expressing confidence that the visit would boost mutual understanding and deepen trust.

Highlighting their respective national goals, Xi remarked, "While President Trump hopes to make America great again, I am dedicated to leading the Chinese people toward national rejuvenation."

He stressed that both countries could advance their development and revitalization by strengthening bilateral cooperation.

Emphasizing the need to build on current momentum, Xi urged both sides to implement the agreements reached to ensure the steady development of relations.

President Trump expressed his gratitude for the invitation, describing the visit as a success that has been widely noted globally.

He confirmed that the two sides had achieved an important consensus, signed several agreements, and addressed a range of issues beneficial to both countries and the world.

Referring to President Xi as a "longtime friend," Trump expressed his respect for the Chinese leader and stated that the bilateral relationship remains crucial and is expected to improve further.

He voiced his willingness to maintain close communication and extended an invitation for President Xi to visit Washington.

The meeting, which was attended by senior Chinese officials including Wang Yi, also served as a platform for the two leaders to exchange views on key regional issues.
