India’s Border Security Force (BSF) on Friday repatriated two Bangladeshi police personnel who were detained near the Bangladesh-India border in Cumilla's Brahmanpara upazila while conducting an anti-narcotics operation.
Assistant Sub-Inspector Md Imran Hossain and Constable Rohit Dewan of Brahmanpara Police Station were handed over to the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) around 1:30 pm, following a flag meeting between officers of both border forces near main border pillar No. 2057 in the Narayanpur border region.
The flag meeting was attended by Commanding Officer of Sultanpur Battalion (60 Battalion) Lt Col SM Shariful Islam, commander of Shashidal Border Outpost Subedar Mohammad Takbir Hossain, Assistant Superintendent of Police (Debidwar Circle) Md Shahin, and Brahmanpara Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Faruk Hossain.
The occurrence unfolded at approximately 11:30 pm on Thursday in the Ashabari area of Shashidal union, close to border pillar No. 2059.
The two law enforcement officers had traveled to the border zone to conduct a raid against illegal narcotics when a suspected drug trafficker attempted to evade capture upon noticing their presence.
Constable Rohit pursued the fleeing suspect but was apprehended by a group of Indian nationals near the boundary line.
When ASI Imran attempted to rescue his colleague, he was similarly detained. According to officials, senior representatives from both the BGB and BSF engaged in detailed discussions regarding the incident prior to the formal release and handover of the two policemen.
