Tensions have flared once again across the Middle East following a wave of retaliatory strikes by Iran.
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced that it has targeted multiple U.S. military installations across the region, including a drone strike directed at the U.S. Navy's Fifth Fleet headquarters in Bahrain.
Tehran has characterized the military operation as direct retaliation for recent U.S. airstrikes conducted in southern Iran.
In the early hours of Wednesday (June 10), the IRGC stated that it had hit 21 U.S. military targets, including various air and naval bases throughout the region.
In a statement published by state media, the Revolutionary Guards vowed to execute even harsher countermeasures should U.S. military operations against Iran continue.
Strategic Infrastructure and Drones Targeted
As part of the operation, the IRGC claimed to have shot down a U.S. MQ-9 Reaper drone in the airspace over Iran's southern Bushehr province.
Concurrently, the Guards announced a drone strike targeting the Ali Al Salem Air Base in Kuwait. The Kuwaiti military later confirmed the incident, stating that its air defense network had successfully intercepted and engaged the hostile aerial targets.
Tehran’s multi-pronged retaliation follows extensive and precision airstrikes carried out by the United States across several locations in southern Iran, including Jask, Sirik, and Qeshm Island.
Reports indicate that U.S. forces had previously hit 20 Iranian targets, including a telecommunications tower.
Regional Escalation Reaches Jordan
In a significant widening of the regional conflict, the IRGC disclosed that it utilized long-range missiles to target the Al-Azraq airbase in Jordan.
The Revolutionary Guards specified that they targeted four distinct zones within the base, including hangars housing F-35 fighter jets and a primary command-and-control center.
Responding to the escalation, the Jordanian military confirmed that missile debris had fallen within its territory after interceptions took place, though it reported no casualties or significant structural damage.
This volatile cycle of military confrontations intensified after the U.S. launched strikes on Iranian territory in response to the downing of a U.S. Army Apache helicopter by Iran on Tuesday.
Iran's latest bombardment of American installations marks a direct escalation in the ongoing conflict.
