UN Secretary-General António Guterres has expressed deep grief over the loss of lives, missing persons, and widespread devastation caused by severe floods along the Nepal-China border.

He conveyed his condolences to the families of those killed in the floods and wished a speedy recovery to the injured.

In a statement, Guterres said he was deeply saddened by the incident, which has claimed numerous lives, left many missing, and caused massive destruction.

Expressing solidarity with all those affected, the UN Secretary-General stated that UN agencies and partners have initiated efforts to deploy equipment and personnel to support the rescue and relief operations led by the Government of Nepal.

Earlier, reports indicated that at least 157 people were killed in the sudden floods in Nepal. According to BBC reports, Nepali police recovered 157 bodies. Following the disaster, approximately 403 tourists remain unaccounted for, including 341 foreign nationals.
