The United Nations has congratulated the people of Bangladesh on the successful and peaceful conduct of the 13th National Parliamentary Election and the national referendum.

The global body also reaffirmed its commitment to providing full support and assistance in building a peaceful and prosperous nation.

Stéphane Dujarric, spokesperson for UN Secretary-General António Guterres, conveyed this message during a regular press briefing at the UN Headquarters in New York on Friday (February 13).

Congratulations to the People: "We certainly congratulate the people of Bangladesh on the parliamentary elections and the referendum. We are committed to supporting Bangladesh in its efforts to build a peaceful and prosperous future," Dujarric stated.

Focus on Democracy and Rights: Quoting the Secretary-General, the spokesperson emphasized that the UN seeks the establishment of democracy and the rule of law, the strengthening of national unity among political parties, and the protection of human rights and minorities.

Call for Inclusive Reform: The Secretary-General stressed the importance of maintaining national cohesion and urged political stakeholders to uphold democratic norms, ensure the safety of minority groups, and pursue inclusive and sustainable reforms.

A Message for the Holy Month of Ramadan
During the briefing, Secretary-General António Guterres also shared a special message for the upcoming month of Ramadan.

He noted that people in various parts of the world—including Palestine, Afghanistan, Yemen, and Sudan—are suffering from conflict, hunger, displacement, and discrimination.

In these challenging and divided times, Guterres called on the global community to remember the core essence of Ramadan and urged everyone to safeguard the rights and dignity of every individual to bridge divides.
