Cataclysmic deluges striking the Nepal-Tibet frontier zone this week have claimed the lives of a minimum of 547 individuals, law enforcement authorities in Nepal reported on Friday.

Chinese state media previously verified five fatalities following Wednesday's calamity, bringing the combined death toll to at least 552.

Upward of 1,400 people remain unaccounted for, a figure that includes hundreds of foreign nationals.

The United States Geological Survey noted that the catastrophe—marking the deadliest disaster for Nepal since the 2015 earthquake—stemmed from a glacial collapse that unleashed a massive torrent of frozen debris.

Furthermore, administrative officials in India retrieved seven corpses from waterways originating in Nepal on Friday, suspected to be casualties of the catastrophic floods.

Authorities are actively working to ascertain the identities of the deceased, and these seven bodies discovered in India are excluded from the official overall casualty count.
