Two people were killed when a small aircraft crashed at Montgomery-Gibbs Executive Airport in San Diego, California, USA.

The accident occurred at approximately 5:20 PM local time on Monday (September 7).

According to preliminary information, the crashed aircraft was a small Cessna.

Eyewitnesses reported that the plane caught fire immediately after slamming onto the runway.

The San Diego Fire-Rescue Department (SDFD) deployed nearly 30 personnel to the scene for firefighting and rescue operations. Both occupants aboard the aircraft died at the scene.

According to the San Diego Police Department, authorities received reports of the accident around 5:21 PM, confirming the crash took place at the Kearney Mesa airport.

Police stated that the circumstances surrounding the crash remain unclear.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has launched an investigation to determine the cause of the accident.

According to Fox 5 San Diego, witnesses working nearby reported seeing flames coming from the plane.

This tragic incident occurred just two days after another fatal plane crash in Fresno that claimed the lives of all four people on board.
