A somber atmosphere enveloped the Diabari premises of Milestone School and College on Tuesday morning as faculty members, administrative staff and institutional representatives assembled to honor those who lost their lives in the devastating aviation disaster that struck the campus one year ago.

Marking the first anniversary of the tragedy, the institution organized a special prayer service and doa mahfil to commemorate the students, educators, parents, and staff members who perished in the incident.

Attendees laid floral wreaths in memory of the victims, pausing for quiet reflection to honor a disaster that has left a lasting impact on the academic institution.

Educators representing both the school and college divisions, alongside general staff, participated in the memorial service, standing together in a shared display of respect for former colleagues and students.

Despite the passage of time, the memory of those lost remains deeply embedded in the daily life of the school community.

The disaster, which occurred on July 21 last year when an FT-7 BGI fighter jet plunged into the institution's Uttara campus, resulted in at least 36 fatalities, including 28 students.

Reports initially placed the immediate death toll at 34 following the July 21 crash.

The catastrophe sent shockwaves across the nation, triggering widespread public grief and urgent calls for enhanced safety protocols to prevent similar occurrences in the future.

Following the crash, an official inquiry committee was established to investigate the causes of the incident.

The probe panel completed its findings and submitted the final investigation report to Prof. Muhammad Yunus, the former chief adviser of the interim government, on November 5, 2025.
