In a bizarre political development in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, a controversial poster depicting a ten-headed Ravana has surfaced, featuring the faces of prominent global and Indian figures, including Bangladesh's former Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus and U.S. billionaire Elon Musk.
The poster, titled "Ravana, the Enemy of Sanatan India," was circulated by the organization Sanatan Raksha Sangh.
Key Figures Featured on the Poster
The ten heads of the symbolic Ravana figure included portraits of:
Dr. Muhammad Yunus, former Chief Adviser of Bangladesh's interim government, Elon Musk, U.S. billionaire and entrepreneur, Akhilesh Yadav, President of the Samajwadi Party (SP), Rahul Gandhi, senior Indian National Congress leader, Atiq Ahmed and Mukhtar Ansari, deceased former Indian politicians/legislators, Azam Khan, senior Samajwadi Party leader, Prashant Bhushan, prominent Indian Supreme Court lawyer, George Soros, international financier and philanthropist, Ilhan Omar, U.S. Representative
Festival Timing and Political Controversy
The poster has added a sharp political dimension to the ongoing celebrations of Dussehra (or Ravana Dahan), which is being celebrated across Uttar Pradesh.
A video published on the X (formerly Twitter) account of an Indian media outlet showed Samajwadi Party workers removing one such poster from a location in Lucknow.
Reacting to the inclusion of party chief Akhilesh Yadav's face on the poster, a Samajwadi Party Member of Parliament alleged that the ruling party is unnerved by Yadav's surging popularity ahead of the upcoming state assembly elections.
Last year, a similar controversy erupted during Durga Puja celebrations in India, where an effigy resembling Dr. Muhammad Yunus was depicted in a distorted manner as an Asura (demon).
