Former Chief Adviser of the interim government, Dr. Muhammad Yunus, was confronted by a group of expatriate Bangladeshis who expressed anger and heckled him at John F. Kennedy (JFK) International Airport in New York.
The incident took place on Monday (October 12) at JFK International Airport.
Footage circulating on social media shows several individuals approaching a wheelchair-bound Dr. Yunus in the airport terminal, shouting slogans and venting their frustration. He was targeted with shouts of "You are a terrorist" and "Why you came here."
The demonstrators accused him of destroying the country's democracy and raised slogans criticizing his administration and the role of the police force.
In the video, one person can be heard shouting, "You killed thousands of police officers in my country. Why have you come here?"
The video also shows Dr. Yunus, surrounded by a tight security detail and aides, calmly moving forward while the protestors hurled taunts and protests around him.
Dr. Yunus and Lamia Morshed, who was accompanying him, quickly moved inside the airport terminal amidst the commotion.
However, the identities of the individuals seen in the video and the full details of the incident have not been independently verified.
No official statement has been released by Dr. Yunus's office regarding the matter.
