A wave of shootings across multiple US states during Halloween celebrations has left at least 24 people dead and 94 injured.

The incidents took place near nightclubs, entertainment districts, Halloween pop-up stores, and educational institutions in states including California, Texas, and Delaware. One of the highest-casualty events occurred in Dallas, Texas, where three separate shootings within a span of about 75 minutes resulted in four deaths and 15 injuries. However, there is no evidence to suggest that all the attacks specifically targeted Halloween revelers or were interconnected.

Multiple violent incidents occurred across the United States between Saturday (October 31) and Sunday (November 1). Citing reports from The New York Times, NBC, and the Associated Press, South Korean media outlets compiled figures showing at least 24 fatalities and 94 injuries.

Among the most prominent incidents were those in the Deep Ellum neighborhood of Dallas, Texas. In the early hours of Sunday (November 1), following Saturday night, gunfire erupted across three separate locations. According to official data from the Dallas Police Department, the first shooting occurred at 12:20 AM on the 2600 block of Elm Street. The second took place at 1:05 AM on the 2600 block of Main Street, and the third occurred at 1:35 AM on the 200 block of South Crowdus Street.

Dallas police confirmed that a total of 19 people were shot in these three incidents—four were killed and 15 were injured. Emergency responders transported several victims to hospitals, while others sought medical care on their own. No police officers were injured. While no direct link among the three incidents has been established initially, investigations into potential connections and motives remain ongoing.

Deep Ellum is a well-known entertainment district in Dallas, featuring bars, restaurants, music venues, and nightclubs. Large crowds had gathered there Saturday night for Halloween. Following the shootings, police deployed additional personnel and closed off several streets. Investigators are currently gathering security camera footage from neighboring businesses and interviewing witnesses.

Dallas Police Chief Daniel Como stated that extra security measures had already been put in place for Halloween, enabling officers stationed nearby to respond rapidly upon receiving the reports. He also noted that officers administered emergency first aid to save one victim's life. Chief Como emphasized that the investigation would continue to identify those responsible and bring them to justice, clarifying that not everyone detained or questioned during the process is necessarily implicated in the crimes.

Meanwhile, in Fairfield, California, a shooting at a Spirit Halloween store located in the Solano Town Center shopping mall on Friday night left one person dead and six others injured. Later reports identified the deceased as a 31-year-old pregnant woman. Police are investigating the shooting as a targeted attack, though the overall motive and the roles of those involved remain under investigation.

In a separate incident in Michigan, a 21-year-old man was killed in a shooting near a Spirit Halloween store in Madison Heights. Although both incidents occurred near stores sharing the same name, there is no indication that they were tied to the same criminal network or plan, meaning the shared location name is coincidental.

Casualties were also reported in Birmingham, Alabama, where two separate shootings occurred in areas surrounding Legion Field Stadium following the Magic City Classic football game. One person was killed and eight others were injured. Around 70,000 spectators had attended the game, though no gunfire was reported inside the stadium during the event.

In Newark, Delaware, a shooting near the University of Delaware left six people wounded. Meanwhile, near Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington, Illinois, a 19-year-old woman was killed and another person was critically injured in a shooting. Although these incidents occurred near educational campuses, investigations into the motives and identities of suspects are ongoing.

In Fayetteville, Arkansas, six people were hospitalized following a shooting. Preliminary police reports indicate the gunfire stemmed from a dispute, though the specific cause and individuals involved remain under investigation. Authorities emphasize that these events were isolated crimes across different states, with no evidence of a centralized plan.

Every year, large crowds gather across the US at entertainment venues, parties, streets, and public spaces to celebrate Halloween. Security management becomes particularly critical during events extending late into the night. However, it has not been conclusively proven that alcohol, drug use, or holiday crowds were the direct cause of the violence in these recent shootings.

A previous analysis by criminologist James Alan Fox examined violence trends during specific holidays. Analyzing Boston crime data from 2005 to 2009, the study identified October 31 as one of the higher-risk days for violence, ranking behind July 4 and January 1. However, this study was based on older data from a single city and may not reflect nationwide patterns.

During Halloween evenings, young children and teenagers venture outdoors, trick-or-treating from house to house and participating in family gatherings. Increased traffic, crowds, and travel to unfamiliar locations necessitate heightened safety awareness. Nevertheless, risks to children vary, and statistics for gun violence, traffic accidents, and other crimes require separate evaluation.

These incidents also raise safety concerns for immigrant families, including the Bangladeshi community living in the United States. Safety experts advise those attending crowded events during Halloween or other major festivals to follow instructions issued by local police and organizers. In the event of a nearby shooting, relying on verified information from relevant police departments rather than rumors is essential.

While compiled estimates place the toll at least 24 dead and 94 injured from gun violence across various US states over the Halloween weekend, overall totals vary across media outlets. Police have confirmed four dead and 15 injured in the three Dallas incidents, while investigations into the remaining events continue. Subsequent official reports will be key to clarifying the motives, suspect identities, and final casualty figures.
