
A tragic road accident claimed the lives of at least 14 people and left several others injured in the Sargodha district of Punjab province on Friday night, after a truck lost control due to dense fog and overturned into a canal.
According to rescue officials and reports from Geo News, the accident occurred around 11:00 PM local time on January 16.

The victims were traveling in a truck to attend a funeral. As the vehicle reached the Ghalapur Bangla Canal area near Kot Momin city, the driver reportedly lost visibility due to heavy fog, causing the truck to skid off the road and plunge into a ditch/canal.

Rescue Efforts
Upon receiving the alert, rescue teams rushed to the site to pull survivors from the wreckage. While nine passengers survived the initial crash, several remain under medical care for various injuries.

Provincial authorities noted that the entire Punjab province is currently experiencing a severe cold wave accompanied by dense fog, which has reduced road visibility to near zero in many areas.
Officials have issued an urgent advisory to drivers, calling for extreme caution during late-night and early-morning hours to prevent further tragedies on the road.
