In a wave of violence across southwestern Pakistan, 15 security personnel and 18 civilians were killed following attacks by separatists. In response, security officials claim that at least 92 militants were killed during retaliatory operations.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the media wing of the Pakistani military, security forces neutralized at least 92 terrorists during clearance operations in Balochistan.
These operations followed coordinated attacks on Saturday, which the military attributed to "India-backed terrorists." During the clashes, 18 civilians and 15 members of the security forces were martyred.
In a statement, the ISPR noted that terrorists from the organization ‘Fitna al-Hindustan’ launched simultaneous attacks on January 31 across several areas, including Quetta, Mastung, Nushki, Dalbandin, Kharan, Panjgur, Tump, Gwadar, and Pasni.
The statement further alleged that the terrorists systematically targeted and killed 18 innocent civilians. According to the ISPR, these attacks in Gwadar and Kharan were designed to disrupt daily life and ongoing development projects in Balochistan.
Immediately following the assaults, security forces and law enforcement agencies launched a province-wide clearance operation.
A total of 92 terrorists, including three suicide bombers, were reportedly killed. The ISPR stated, "Security forces successfully thwarted the sabotage attempts through extraordinary bravery and professional skill."
Meanwhile, the banned separatist group Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) has claimed responsibility for the attacks across Balochistan. The group claimed to have killed more than 50 security personnel in various locations.
In light of the armed attacks, the health department has declared an emergency in government hospitals across several districts.
President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed their condolences to the families of the victims and praised the role of the security forces.
Prime Minister Sharif asserted that operations would continue until terrorism is completely eradicated.
