Former State Minister for Home Affairs and BNP leader Lutfozzaman Babar has been granted bail in a bribery case involving Tk 21 crore. The case alleges that the bribe was taken to exonerate Safiat Sobhan Sanvir, an accused in the murder of Bashundhara Group director Sabbir.
The bail order was issued on Thursday (March 6) by Judge Md Abu Taher of Dhaka's Special Judge Court-3.
The court has scheduled March 18 for arguments in the case against eight individuals, including BNP's acting chairman Tarique Rahman and Lutfozzaman Babar.
The case was filed in 2007 at Ramna Police Station in Dhaka, accusing the defendants of receiving Tk 21 crore in bribes to shield Safiat Sobhan Sanvir from charges in the Sabbir murder case.
Other accused in the case include Tarique Rahman’s former APS Mia Nur Uddin Apu, Kazi Salimul Haque Kamal, Ahmed Akbar Sobhan, Safiat Sobhan, Sadat Sobhan, and Abu Sufyan.
