Dhaka Bar Lawyers Unanimously Refuse to Fight Case for Ramisa’s Killers

No lawyer from the Dhaka Bar Association will represent the accused in the case filed over the brutal rape and murder of eight-year-old Ramisa Akter in the capital's Pallabi area.

The decision was taken unanimously during a virtual meeting of the Dhaka Bar Association's executive committee on Friday.

"We have unanimously decided at today's executive committee meeting that no lawyer of the Dhaka Bar will fight the case on behalf of the accused in the Ramisa murder case," Dhaka Bar Association General Secretary Kalam Khan told the media.

According to the case statement, Ramisa Akter, a class-II student of Popular Model High School, was allegedly raped and murdered at a residence adjacent to the Millat Camp under Pallabi Police Station last Tuesday.

Following the horrific incident, Ramisa's father, Abdul Hannan Molla, filed a murder case with Pallabi Police Station on Wednesday, accusing tenant Sohel Rana and his wife Swapna Akter.

Police subsequently arrested both suspects.

On May 20, the prime accused, 30-year-old Sohel Rana, gave a confessional statement before the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Aminul Islam Junayed.

On the same day, the court ordered that Sohel's wife, 26-year-old Swapna Akter, be sent to jail.
