The National Citizen Party (NCP) agreed to accept 'Shapla Koli' (Water Lily Bud) as its official electoral symbol, NCP Chief Coordinator Nasiruddin Patwary told the media after a meeting with Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin at the Nirbachon Bhabon in the capital's Agargon area on Sunday.
The NCP leader said that they have written a letter to the EC requesting that Shapla Koli as the party symbol.
Earlier, EC included Shapla Koli in its revised list of 119 electoral symbols. A gazette notification, signed by EC Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed, was released on Thursday.
To incorporate Shapla Koli, a symbol sought by NCP, EC has amended the Election Conduct Rules. The notification stated that the amendment was made under the authority granted by Article 94 of the 1972 Constitution.
However, NCP rejected EC's move, saying that the party would not make any compromise over the 'Shapla' (Water Lily) symbol.
