
Leaders of the Buddhist community met with Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Thursday at the Cabinet Division in the Bangladesh Secretariat to exchange greetings on the occasion of Buddha Purnima.

The Prime Minister and the Buddhist community leaders discussed several key issues, including the government’s ongoing initiatives to maintain communal harmony across the country and the continued socio-economic development of the Buddhist community.
The event was attended by Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed, Religious Affairs Minister Kazi Shah Mofazzal Houssain (Kaikobad), Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Minister Dipen Dewan and State Minister Mir Mohammed Helal Uddin.
Also in attendance were the Prime Minister’s Special Assistant on Hindu, Buddhist, Christian, and Ethnic Affairs Bijon Kanti Sarkar, Bandarban lawmaker Saching Prue, BNP-nominated candidate for the reserved women's seat from the hill region Madhabi Marma, and Dr. Sukomal Barua.
As a gesture of goodwill, the representatives of the Buddhist community presented the Prime Minister with a commemorative crest and a replica of a Buddha statue during the meeting.
