The formal rituals of the holy Hajj have commenced. Pilgrims began journeying toward Mina, widely known as the "Tent City," following the Isha prayers on Sunday (May 24). The movement of pilgrims to Mina is scheduled to continue until Monday afternoon (May 25).
According to Hajj rituals, pilgrims will spend the entirety of Monday and the following night in Mina engaged in prayers and supplication. On Tuesday (9 Dhul Hijjah), they will depart Mina for the plains of Arafat to observe the climax and primary pillar of the Hajj, known as the "Wuquf" (standing on Arafat).
The core rituals of the Hajj will conclude on Wednesday with the ritual sacrifice of animals, marking the beginning of Eid-ul-Azha. Following this, pilgrims will perform the farewell Tawaf at the Holy Kaaba before beginning their journeys back to their respective home countries.
Scorching Heat and Safety Measures
Searing heatwaves are currently gripping the holy sites, including Mina and Arafat. According to forecasts by the Saudi National Center for Meteorology, temperatures on Tuesday—the day of the assembly at Arafat—could soar to 45°C.
The Saudi government has implemented extensive measures to protect pilgrims from the extreme heat. Additional sheds have been constructed to provide shade across the holy sites, misting fans have been installed to cool the air, and an abundant supply of water has been ensured.
Furthermore, specialized medical teams and mobile hospitals have been deployed to provide immediate healthcare. To prevent heat-related illnesses, Saudi authorities have urged pilgrims to use umbrellas and remain sufficiently hydrated.
