India's loss to Australia in the T20 World Cup Super Eight that gave Bangladesh a great opportunity to reach the semi-finals. The Tigers would have reached the semi-finals if they had defeated Afghanistan by a big margin in the last match of the Super Eight.

Keeping the Afghans, made the equation easier. But in the end, Shanto's team could not. Bangladesh left the Super Eight of the World Cup after not being able to chase the target within the allotted overs.

In this breath-taking match, Bangladesh finally lost to the Afghans by 8 runs due to rain. It did not end the victory drought of Bangladesh in the Super Eight. With this defeat of the Tigers, Australia has also left the World Cup after falling behind in net run rate. On the other hand, Afghanistan reached the semi-finals for the first time with 4 points in 3 matches.

On Tuesday (June 25) in Kingstown, St. Vincent, Afghanistan won the toss and score 115 runs off the loss of 5 wickets in the scheduled 20 overs. In reply to Bangladesh, it's innings stopped at 105 runs after losing all wickets in 17.5 overs to chase the target.

In a match where the fate of three teams- Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Australia- were on the line, the Afghans have come out on top, defending a mere 114-run target in 19 overs after multiple rain interruptions and have marched into the final four of a major ICC event for the very first time.

Liton Das remained unbeaten on 54 off 49 balls, but eventually ran out of partners, as the Tigers were bundled out for 105 in 17.5 overs.

Bangladesh initially showed intent to chase the target down inside 12.1 overs, which would've sent them to the semis, but Afghan skipper Rashid Khan turned the tide in the middle overs, and finished with 4-23.

Still, Bangladesh were inching closer to the target with Liton holding up one end. But Naveen-ul-Haq, who had taken two wickets in the Powerplay, struck in consecutive deliveries in the 18th over to seal the win for the Afghans, eliminating Australia in the process as well.

Afghanistan will now face South Africa in the first semifinal on June 27. Both these teams have never played a final of a World Cup.
This is the final match of the Super Eight phase.
