The Bangladesh women’s hockey team are set to return home early Friday, following a historic and successful campaign at the Women's Asian Games Qualifying Hockey tournament in Jakarta, Indonesia.

The team are expected to touch down at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 12:15 am.

Bangladesh concluded the tournament as runners-up after falling to a 3-1 defeat against Chinese Taipei in the final held last Wednesday.

In the championship match, Bangladesh made a promising start with Orpit Paul converting a penalty corner in the 8th minute to take an early lead.

However, Chinese Taipei equalized in the 17th minute and took control in the third quarter, scoring twice in the 32nd and 40th minutes.

Despite a determined effort in the final quarter, Bangladesh was unable to close the gap.

The tournament marked several significant milestones for the team.

Bangladesh opened their campaign with a high-scoring 5-5 draw against Chinese Taipei before registering their first-ever maiden international victory with a 3-2 win over Uzbekistan in the group stage.

They officially secured their ticket to the upcoming Asian Games by defeating Hong Kong 2-1 in their final group match.

To reach the final, Bangladesh continued their dominant form by overcoming Singapore 3-1 in the first semifinal.

Throughout the competition, the team demonstrated remarkable growth and resilience, ultimately finishing second on the podium and ensuring their participation in the prestigious Asian Games.
